The Annual Ataxia Research Drive began on October 15 with the challenge to raise $400,000 by December 15 to fund the finest Ataxia research.
There were 84 research applications submitted to the National Ataxia Foundation (NAF) for consideration. They are currently being peer-reviewed by 70 leading Ataxia researchers.
Of the 84 applications, 25 were submitted for the Young Investigator Research Award which is a $35,000 – $50,000 one-year grant funded by NAF. These grants were created to encourage young clinical and scientific investigators to pursue a career in the field of Ataxia research. Being awarded a Young Investigator award early in a researcher’s career will have a significant impact on the direction of their research efforts over their lifetimes.
Of course, NAF’s goal is that these bright scientists continue to study Ataxia, helping to find the treatments we all so desperately need. With a commitment from an anonymous donor, three Young Investigator grants will be awarded. However, many Young Investigators have submitted promising Ataxia research projects that may go unfunded.
That is where you play a significant role! Your research donations will determine how many Young Investigator applications, beyond three, NAF is able to fund. These important grants are an investment for the future of Ataxia research. Thank you for your generous donations!
